Testimonials

I have been having weekly piano lessons with Jane Hopkins since 2015. Aged 55, without any previous experience of playing any instrument, I suddenly decided I wanted to play the piano! It was my very good fortune that I found Jane as she is uniquely gifted for that rather challenging task. In the first year she encouraged me to get Distinctions in Grade 1 & 2 ABRSM exams and since then I have made steady progress. Jane has made learning such fun, always enthusiastic and endlessly patient. Her lessons are the perfect balance of encouragement, good humour and professionalism. I have advanced further than I ever imagined and look forward to my weekly visits, always coming away with renewed enthusiasm. I doubt very much I would still be learning had I not found the talented Jane.

My daughter has been having piano lessons with Jane for almost 2 years. She started when she was 7 and Jane has so much patience and a real passion for the piano that my daughter loves going for lessons. She has made good progress and is now able to read music and play some pieces really well and she looks forward to going because Jane always makes the lessons fun for her. Over the lockdown we carried on with lessons online and these were also great and gave us something to look forward to. I can highly recommend Jane for people of any age or ability. We used to hear the more experienced players having lessons before us and the playing was brilliant.

I always wanted to learn how to play the piano, and finally in my 60's plucked up the courage to get started. I was a complete novice so wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm so pleased I found Jane. I've been having weekly lessons for a year and not only is Jane an excellent tutor, always enthusiastic and encouraging, she also has a way of making the lessons fun. I'm always hard on myself when I make mistakes, but Jane is really good at balancing that with kindness and patience enabling me to learn and grow. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Jane, whatever your age or ability.

After teaching myself the basics during lockdown I was keen to progress further and improve my playing. Given my age, I was a little apprehensive about lessons and didn’t want any pressure to take exams. I just wanted to improve for my own love and enjoyment of playing. Jane has been the perfect teacher. Friendly, encouraging and patient. Her cosy studio provides a lovely relaxed learning space. I had no idea how challenging it would be, but Jane’s continuous support and good humour keeps things fun and positive, giving me both the skills and confidence in my ability to continue to improve.
